When Schoolgirl Roleplay and Professionalism Don’t Mix

Philosopher Vincent Hendricks made a not-so-good-move by posting some photos of him with young some women dressed as school girls on a course website. In case you missed it, Feminist Philosophers broke the story that was all over the academic wires. See the screenshot here.

  1. I do not see a time when it would not fit

  2. One of the big issues here is that philosophy is a pretty sexist culture. There has been a lot of talk about this recently in the philosophy community. Hendricks is a logician, and logic is one of the areas women are underrepresented. It appears women do well when they have non-sexist male role models or strong female role models, in areas where they are underrepresented. By posting these pictures on hiw *course website*, Hendricks took something personal (perhaps, if he likes school girls) and made it public for his students, including the female ones, to view. He has been harshly criticized for this.
